Roadmap
The goal: decentralized storage for large files on IOTA Rebased, with its own storage nodes and no token of its own, so that anyone with an IOTA wallet can store data, publish websites and give applications and agents a place to keep their data.
Done
Protocol
- Move contracts on IOTA (
almacen): storage, blobs, BLS committee, staking in IOTA and epochs, with 268 Move tests. - Storage nodes that keep the slivers of their shards and sign confirmations. Blobs are certified on IOTA by the aggregated signature of the nodes, and can be stored and read with a node down. The nodes advance the epochs themselves.
Network on IOTA testnet
- 4 storage nodes, 100 shards (blobs up to 142 MiB) and 1-day epochs, running permanently and
reachable at
iotastorage.com. - Aggregator and publisher over HTTP, quilts included.
- Nodes keep their state on disk and delete expired data.
Paying in IOTA and owning the Blob
- Storage is paid in IOTA in the same transaction that registers or renews a blob, and nodes stake IOTA (minimum 1 IOTA).
- The owner renews, transfers, deletes and burns their
Blobfrom their wallet. The nodes follow renewals and deletions. - Project treasury: it receives 3 % of each epoch's rewards and the commission of slashed nodes.
Sites
- The
sitioscontract on IOTA, with 39 Move tests. - Quilts, and the quilt endpoints of the aggregator and the publisher.
- The
sitio.mjspublisher: it uploads only what changed and renews what is still in use. - The public portal, with IOTA Names, at
https://<site>.iotastorage.com/.
Website
- The landing page at
iotastorage.com, this documentation and the app to publish and manage sites and blobs with a browser wallet. All three are sites stored on the network itself. - Renewal of a site without uploading it again (
sitio.mjs renovar). The website of the project renews itself every week.
Next
- Renewal for everyone: a service that keeps users' sites and data alive beyond 53 epochs without manual renewals.
- Memory: a persistent, encrypted memory for AI agents, stored in batches in quilts, that can be searched by similarity.
- Sites: reverse lookup from a
Siteto its IOTA Names name, listing directories, and reading a patch with only the slivers of its columns in the aggregator. - App: linking an IOTA Names name from the app, and fewer signatures per site.
- Wallet: reuse the
Storageobjects left in the wallet after deleting a blob before buying new space.
Later
Protocol robustness
- Checking the content of each sliver in the storage nodes.
- Recovery of slivers between nodes and migration of shards when the committee changes.
- Storage challenges, inconsistency proofs and TLS with the nodes' network key.
Open network and economics
- Independent operators: more nodes and more shards.
- Restaking: that IOTA staked on storage nodes also earns the rewards of native IOTA staking.
- Staking by third parties, rewards and penalties; use and governance of the treasury.
- Audit and mainnet.
